Bwindi Mountain Gorilla Census

November 21, 2012

The 2011 census of critically endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has confirmed that there are at least 400 gorillas living in the park, which is an increase of 100 since a previous census in 2006. The increase in the recorded population is not just a result of improved census methods, but also due to increased expert veterinary care by the Gorilla Doctors who have been working in the park since 1996.

The Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project

Back in July of 2009, we loaned two of our LX Digital X Ray Acquisition Systems to the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project. This project is dedicated to providing improved healthcare and ensuring the survival of endangered species of mountain gorillas. With our partners, BCF Technologies (Scotland) and Gilmen & Associates (Chicago), we provided several pieces of portable veterinary imaging equipment and personnel to assist the team.

For those not familiar with the contest, Veterinarians from across the country send in their most jaw-dropping x rays. This year pets have ingested all sorts of household items ranging from small chess pieces to objects almost the size of the animal. The veterinary x rays have to be seen to be believed!

We have just released a new software update for the TruDR eSeries Vet DR system. Version 3.51 is available now. This update features an array of enhancements, such as improved image quality and manipulation, improved modality work list support, and additional data fields.
